Each character has four items that can be accessed with the dpad. Three of these items are character specific, while the fourth is common to all characters, the guard break pill dash.

pills affect max jump height when used during a jump, consuming a pill during the apex of a double jump can create a pseudo-triple jump, although pills used late in a jump give more height than distance
Using a tag during a jump behaves exactly like performing an air combo, causing the character to fall to the ground in recovery.
Using a tag or pill during a ninja move causes the character to halt all movement and fall to the ground.
Guard Break Pill Dash can only be used on the ground and ends near-ground ninja moves.)
